Genesis Fueltech Supplies Fuel Processors For Antarctic Base Fuel Cell Demonstration Project
Genesis Fueltech Inc. is supplying two of its Model 20L methanolfuel processors for installation at the US Antarctic Program support base in Christchurch, New Zealand. Industrial Research Limited of Christchurch will manage the project and install the fuel processors to supply hydrogen to two ReliOn Independence 1000 fuel cells. The US Army Corps of Engineers will monitor system performance over the next year as part of its search for alternatives to the diesel electric generators now used at remote sites like Antarctica. The Model 20L is the newest fuel processor developed by Genesis and has set new benchmarks for fuel processor performance and ease of integration with fuel cell systems.
October 28, 2004 -- Genesis Fueltech Inc. announces that it is supplying two of its Model 20L methanol-to-hydrogen fuel processors for installation at the US Antarctic Program (USAP) support base in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The New Zealand state company Industrial Research Limited will manage the project and will install the fuel processors to supply hydrogen to two ReliOn Independence 1000 fuel cells. Genesis Chief Technology Officer David DeVries will assist with the start-up integration.
The US Army Corps of Engineers will monitor system performance over the next year as part of its search for alternatives to the diesel electric generators now used at remote sites like Antarctica.
The methanol/water fuel used by Genesis processors has a freezing point of minus 72 C, making it an ideal hydrogen source for extreme winter and alpine conditions.
The Model 20L is the newest fuel processor developed by Genesis. It generates up to 20 standard liters of hydrogen per minute and has set new benchmarks for fuel processor performance and ease of integration with fuel cell systems.
This processor (or reformer) has an effective operating range of zero to twenty liters of hydrogen per minute. The reformer automatically load tracks, that is, it is completely responsive to the hydrogen needs of a fuel cell system. It achieves a net operating efficiency of over 80%.
The Model 20L is designed for rack mounting with dimensions of 19 inches by 8.5 inches by 16 inches. It weighs 46 pounds (21 kilograms) and is very quiet (less than 56 decibels at three feet). Hydrogen purity exceeds 99.9999%.
Headquartered in Spokane, Washington, Genesis Fueltech Inc. is a world leader in manufacturing high efficiency methanol to pure hydrogen fuel processors and in the design of compact integrated methanol reforming fuel cell systems.
